In Grand Tours such as the Tour de France and the Giro d’Italia, nearly 200 riders ride in a group for three weeks. The group is called a “peloton” and can reach speeds of up to 60 kilometers per hour when they are so tightly packed that their shoulders touch. Professional riders must not only have the strength to ride in such a group, but also the skills to control their bikes.
