The day has come again this year.
March 11 was the day that the Tohoku coast, my hometown, was devastated by the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami.

The bike paths I had grown accustomed to since childhood were destroyed, and the nuclear power plant, which was said to be absolutely safe, exploded.
While many places have been rebuilt, made beautiful again, and some have come back to life, others have been forced to leave their hometowns, and there has been little progress in dealing with the nuclear power plant that was still destroyed. Some areas have not been touched at all since that day.
However, most people are enjoying the sea again, swimming and cycling.
It is amazing to see the power of human beings. We overcome difficulties, forget the past, and move on.

But there are some things in the past that must not be forgotten.
For the victims of the tsunami, we must always think about living with the sea.
A tsunami is coming. The earth has a great energy that is beyond human power.
We live in nature. No matter how urban we are, we are in the nature of the earth, in the universe.

We must not forget the power of nature. But we should not be unnecessarily afraid of it.
Ride a bicycle freely in nature. Ride along the bike path by the sea. It’s a wonderful thing.
But always remember the threat of nature. And the victims.
