クライマーが活躍する山岳コースに対し、「スプリンター」と呼ばれる選手たちが活躍する平坦ステージもあります。アシストたちに守られながら200km、５時間近くも走った後、ゴール前、最後の数百mが彼らの勝負です。1/100秒を争う戦いは、最後に両腕両足を思いっきり伸ばしバイクを投げ出してゴールラインを切ります。
